The Class 4 Flight Instructor Rating allows you to provide ab-initio flight instruction toward a pilot permit or licence—under the supervision of a Class 2 or Class 1 Flight Instructor. What You Can Do with a Class 4 Instructor Rating
With a Class 4 Flight Instructor Rating, you may:
- Provide initial flight instruction toward a Recreational Pilot Permit, Private Pilot Licence, or other ratings
- Work under the supervision of a Class 1 or Class 2 Instructor
- Begin building valuable instructional and flight time toward higher-level instructor ratings and aviation career goals
Prerequisites
To begin your Class 4 Flight Instructor training at Millennium Aviation, you must have:
- A high school diploma or equivalent secondary school completion
- Hold a valid Category 1 Aviation Medical Certificate
- Possess a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) or Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL)
Course Duration
- Full-time: Approximately 6 weeks
- Part-time: Typically 3–4 months, depending on scheduling and progress
Training Requirements
Transport Canada requires the following minimums for the Class 4 Flight Instructor Rating:
- 25 hours of ground school conducted by a Class 1 Flight Instructor
- 30 hours of dual flight instruction with a Class 1 Flight Instructor
- Successful completion of the Transport Canada written exam
- Successful completion of a flight test with a Transport Canada-approved examiner
